Breville BJE510XL Ikon Variable Speed Juice Extractor

The Breville BJE510XL is a top end centrifugal juicer. It’s price point is interesting in that at $200 it’s bordering on masticating juicer territory. So why buy a pricey centrifugal juicer when you could pay a little more and get a low end masticating juicer?

The answer is features. If you’re someone who likes a lot of features then this is the juicer for you. Personally I would sacrifice features for better juice quality but hey, it’s your money you’re spending.

The BJE510XL has a 900 watt motor which is 50 watts more than the Breville JE98XL. Okay, so not much difference there. The variable speed selection is perhaps a bigger deal, allowing you to choose from speeds from 6,500 rpm to 12,000 rpm. More power means easier juicing but it can also mean more heat and juice quality degradation.

There’s also a cute little display which shows you which speed level you’re juicing at. 1 is for soft fruit, 2 is for citrus, 3 for pineapple, 4 for apple and 5 for hard veg. This display is completely unnecessary of course. All you really need is the number on the speed dial but it will satisfy those who like extra features.
