Omega J8005 Nutrition Center Single-Gear Commercial Masticating Juicer

The main question I get asked about Omega’s 8000 series of horizontal masticating juicers is what’s the difference between them? Omega hasn’t done a very good job at pointing out the differences between the J8003, J8004, J8005 and J8006. Rest assured that all of the 8000 series are functionally identical and you’re not getting any extra features the more you spend.

But where your extra money goes is into the materials used in construction. There is a clue in the warranty offered on the different models. The J8005 has a 10 year warranty (sames as the J8003). The J8006 has a 15 year warranty (same as the J8004). The auger on the J8006 is 8 times stronger than the auger on the J8005. That’s a pretty important part of the juicer and it needs to be strong because it’s at the receiving end when juicing.

Hamilton Beach 67601 Big Mouth Juice Extractor

I would not consider Hamilton Beach a premium brand. It’s no surprise then that most of their juicers fall into the sub $100 price range. Obviously this means the Hamilton Beach 67601 is a centrifugal model. At around $75 it’s $25 cheaper than Breville’s BJE200XL, so is it worth saving $25 or should you save up and go for the Breville?

First thing that strikes you about this juicer is that it doesn’t feel like you just spent $75.  That said it really isn’t that bad of a juicer. It does the job it was intended for but I can’t help thinking that the construction on the Breville BJE200XL is way better and at just $25 more that would be my choice.

Breville JE98XL Review

This review of the Breville JE98XL (a centrifugal model) is somewhat unfair. You see I am used to using the fabulous Omega VRT350 (a masticating model). But I will attempt to look at it from the perspective of someone who is both a first-time juicer and on a budget (JE98XL cost: $150 vs VRT350 cost: $350).

The first thing this review needs to mention is that the JE98XL is famous. This juicer has appeared in a movie. Can you guess which movie it was? That’s right… the JE98XL appeared in “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead” alongside Joe Cross. If you’ve not seen the movie you should go watch it right now. At the time of writing this it’s free to watch on Hulu. Joe Cross traveled across the USA with his trusty Breville juicer so it should be pretty good right?

Well of course it’s a great juicer but at $150 it’s obviously going to be a centrifugal model and come with all the drawbacks of not being a masticating model (sorry but I like masticating juicers). Of course it’s well constructed and a reliable juicer from a respected brand. You only have to look at the reviews on this and other Breville juicers to see that Breville is doing a great job of making juicers. And the price point is well chosen. It’s an affordable centrifugal juicer that looks good and does what it supposed to, plus there’s dual speed which is a bonus.
