Juicing provides a diet rich in healthy vitamins and nutrients that are often lacking in other diets.
However, the benefits of juicing can be maximized by adding Spirulina powder to your fresh juices. Juicing with Spirulina powder offers additional natural protein, antioxidants, and other nutrients that would otherwise be lacking in fresh juice alone.
A Spirulina supplement is easy to obtain, store, and use. Spirulina is a blue-green algae made into a plant-based protein supplement. When purchasing Spirulina powder, Hawaiian Spirulina is preferred to powder from China due to concerns about contamination of Chinese Spirulina.
The algae can become contaminated by heavy metals that are present in the water where it grows. Some people also avoid using Spirulina supplements from India. Supplements made in Hawaii are ideal since many other countries do not have the same regulations to protect against contamination like the United States does.
Spirulina can be purchased in health food stores and online merchants who sell dietary supplements. This supplement is sold in powder, pill, and flake form. For juicing with Spirulina powder, the Spirulina powder can be stirred into the fresh juice. Most commercial powders of Spirulina advise the customer to stir one teaspoon of powder into juice.
Beta-carotene, vitamin E, B complex vitamins, manganese, iron, copper, selenium, zinc, and gamma linolenic acid are some of the vitamins and nutrients present in Spirulina. Gamma linolenic acid is a compound found in breast milk. The antioxidants that are found in Spirulina may guard against cellular damage.
People who use Spirulina for juicing say that this protein-packed supplement makes it so that they are not hungry as fast after their juice or smoothie. One user said she used to tend to be anemic before using Spirulina in her juice. She said the Spirulina powder has had the same benefits of iron supplements without the bothersome side effects of the iron.
Many health benefits are attributed to Spirulina supplements. One study showed that the use of Spirulina supplements reduced precancerous mouth sores in people who use chewing tobacco. People also use this supplement for diabetes, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and heart disease. Those who use the supplement report improved memory and more energy.
The Spirulina supplement may also aid digestion. Spirulina supplements have been used for premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Scientific research shows that Spirulina boosts the immune system by increasing the production of the infection-fighting proteins also known as antibodies.
Spirulina is utilized easily by the body. The vitamin and nutrient content and the body’s ability to easily absorb the nutrients in this form make it ideal for a dietary supplement for malnutrition. Juicing with Spirulina powder makes the smoothies or fresh juice an ideal source of nutrients for a healthy diet.
So if you’re juicing and not using a Spirulina powder it may be worth considering. It’s sold in all good health food stores and also online. Remember to try to buy Hawaiian Spirulina even if it costs you a little more. Spirulina Pacifica is a Hawaiian brand that I recommend. Just remember when you buy to make sure you get the powder and not the tablets!

Hi Denise,
I didn’t know that about the spirulina from India. I’ve purchased it before but don’t recall what country it came from. Thanks for the information. I had another powder mix I used, but didn’t like it. Next time I’ll try spirulina from Hawaii. Best wishes!
