Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite

The first thing to note about the Breville 800JEXL (apart from the $300 price) is that it’s a centrifugal juicer. Usually when we’re talking about juicers in this price range they’re masticating. So why pay $300 for a centrifugal juicer?

This is supposed to be an awesome centrifugal juicer that provides commercial performance in a home juicer. It’s got features like dual speed control, a powerful 1000 watt motor and a patented direct central feed system which is supposed to yield more juice.

It has an extra wide feed chute (always an advantage ) and titanium reinforced cutting blades.

Key Features

  • 1000-watt juicer with dual speed control (6500 RPM or 13000 RPM)
  • Italian made electronic motor that increases power under yield

  • Pulp container, juicing pitcher and manual/recipe book included
  • Titanium-plated cutting disk

This juicer gets glowing reviews. Indeed the Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite is a well constructed piece of kitchen equipment and a lot of thought has gone into it’s design. I’ve always had good experience with Breville products generally and their juicers all tend to be of great quality. But in my opinion there are a couple of drawbacks to this juicer.

The first is the price. This juicer sells at around $300 on average (although you may see higher prices). When paying this amount of money I wouldn’t consider a centrifugal juicer. The reason is the juice quality.

If buying a juicer on a small budget you may be forgiven for avoiding the more expensive masticating machines. A juicer’s job after all is to produce a healthy, nutrition packed drink. And centrifugal juicers achieve this to a degree. The juice is of good enough quality for it to very beneficial to your health. But the juice from a centrifugal juicer will always be of lower quality than that obtained from a masticating juicer. The reason for this is simply the different ways which centrifugal and masticating extract juice.

The Breville 800JEXL has a powerful motor and has a top speed of 13,000 RPM, although this can be lowered to 6,500 RPM. But it extracts juice by tearing apart the cell walls of fruits and vegetables. That may sound okay but it creates more oxidation than a masticating juicer does. A masticating juicer works by slowly pressing the juice out of fruits and vegetables. As a result more of the juice and enzymes are extracted.

Sometimes less is more. Less power and speed means less heat. Breville knows this so they add a dual speed control. You can lower the speed from 13,000 RPM to 6,500 RPM which is good. But with a masticating juicer the speed is only 80-90 RPM!

This is the reason I personally would not buy the Breville 800JEXL. It’s an expensive heavy duty centrifugal juicer. If a juicer is expensive I want better quality juice and not just more features. If I was spending $300 I would be looking at a good masticating juicer like the Omega J8006  (horizontal masticating) or Omega VRT350 (vertical masticating).

Anyway, that’s my personal opinion of the Breville 800JEXL. Like I said at the start, there are some glowing reviews online for this juicer. If you want to make lots of juice quickly and need a high quality centrifugal juicer this may be the one for you!
